Aim: To encourage young men to cook together, chat to one another, and not to be afraid of engaging in potentially difficult conversations. It’s also a great excuse to socialise, as well as building interpersonal and social skills.
Description: For four weeks during the holy month of Ramadan, every Monday evening young men aged 12-25 gathered in the Ark centre based in Harehills to cook a meal together and break their fast. Each week they agreed to cook a different cuisine, such as Mexican, Italian, Chinese etc. Prior to breaking their fast together and tucking into the meal they had just cooked, the group took part in discussion workshops where topics included citizenship, responsibilities in life and the importance of respecting others.
