Current Projects
Young People Community Action Projects
We support youth-led community action projects that give young people the chance to identify local issues and create solutions. With access to micro-grants, mentoring and training, participants have organised neighbourhood events, cultural activities, and campaigns that build stronger, more connected communities. These projects help young people develop practical leadership skills while making a direct positive impact in their own areas.
Leadership Programme
Our flagship Leadership Programme equips young people with the confidence, skills and opportunities to take on leadership roles in civic, community and professional life. Through training workshops, mentoring, and practical experience, participants build their capacity in areas such as public speaking, advocacy, project management and teamwork. The programme develops the next generation of young leaders who are empowered to influence change locally and nationally.
Social Cohesion Work
LMYF plays an active role in strengthening social cohesion across Leeds. We create safe spaces for young people from different backgrounds to come together, share experiences, and build mutual understanding. Our work includes dialogue projects, interfaith events, and community initiatives that challenge prejudice and promote inclusion. By empowering young people to take the lead in these efforts, we foster stronger, more resilient communities.
Health Inequalities Project
Funded by the Peoples Health Trust and run In partnership with Give A Gift, we are working on a project to address health inequalities faced by minority communities in Leeds. This initiative focuses on raising awareness, promoting access to health services, and ensuring that culturally appropriate support is available for those from disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds. Through a participatory approach,
workshops, engagement activities and collaboration with health providers, we are helping to influence a fairer and more equitable system for all.
Get Involved. Make an Impact
Whether you’re a young person looking to make a difference, an organisation ready to collaborate, or a volunteer eager to give back — there’s a place for you at LMYF. Together, we can empower the next generation of Muslim leaders and build stronger, more connected communities across Leeds.
Workshops
LMYF is constantly hosting a series of workshops, yearly, open to all for young people in Leeds, giving them opportunities to explore culture, social cohesion, and the importance of giving back through charity. In the past, participants also received practical first aid training, equipping them with valuable life skills.
The workshops not only support personal growth but also encourage teamwork, empathy, and a stronger sense of community among the young people who take part.
Interfaith work
LMYF is keen to play an active role in Interfaith and bring young people from all backgrounds together as well as enable young Muslims to become support for their neighbouring young friends. We have done this through contributing to events and initiatives that bring communities together. LMYF members have supported, volunteered, and taken part in activities that promote understanding, respect, and social cohesion across faiths and cultures.
Building on this experience, LMYF looks forward to leading and collaborating on projects that celebrate diversity and strengthen connections between different communities in Leeds.
Upskilling sessions and support
We are constantly interested in supporting young people upskill, such as: CV writing, finding a new hobby, connecting with other young people, suggesting volunteering positions available, mentoring and coaching where possible. We support young people with accredited work and opportunities to network.
Social Cohesion & Belonging
LMYF’s faith values mean we strive to improve relationships between disparate young people and communities. We support and carry out numerous cohesion related workshops and projects throughout the year, every year such as; roses for peace, volunteering on Christmas day to provide free food at the local Church and supporting local food banks.
